Lifelong curiosity/learning in sewing

I have been sewing since I was 5 years old.  By age 8 I was making clothes for my Barbies and at 11 I remember making bathing suits in plain cotton and reversible bottoms.  I watched my mother and grandmother each knit and sew while I grew up so these skills became a very natural part of my upbringing.  As an adult, I took my interest to the next level, obtaining a degree in Fashion Design and starting a web-based business selling hand-knitted accessories —www.moroderdesigns.com.

Our children were born in the computer era and much of their free time is spent on keyboards, control consoles and video games. As a result, their fine motor skills for manipulation, writing and precision typically are not well developed.  My mission is to introduce them to an old art, invite them to dream, create, experiment with different textures and colors, think outside the box and discover different ways to fix tangible problems, while developing their fine motor skills.

Studies show that sewing and knitting are very social and relaxing as well.  These skills can last a lifetime and are a wonderful life-long gift to share with your child in today’s stressful world.

I welcome the opportunity to share my passion for sewing with your kids.
